Whitney J. Butcher

Attorney Whitney Butcher joined Connell & Gelb in 2026, focusing her practice on all aspects of family law. A seasoned litigator, Whitney brings more than a decade of legal experience to Connell & Gelb. She has extensive trial experience in Wake and the surrounding counties, helping clients navigate fiercely contested custody, child support, alimony, and equitable distribution cases. Whitney approaches every client with compassion, empathy, and understands that her role as a family law attorney goes beyond traditional lawyering; it’s about helping clients navigate stressful, often high-stakes life changes. She is a strong advocate for her clients, from initial investigation and negotiations, through mediation and to trial.

Before becoming a family law attorney, Whitney represented plaintiffs in products liability and complex civil litigation cases. She was a partner at a prominent national firm and was appointed to serve on multiple national Plaintiff’s Steering and Executive Committees. Whitney was an integral part of working up complex, consolidated cases by developing and working with experts, taking countless depositions, and preparing individual cases for trial. She utilizes those skills now to represent her clients in complex property disputes and high-conflict custody cases. Whitney brings experience in every stage of litigation to Connell & Gelb, including taking and defending depositions, motions practice, and courtroom advocacy during hearings and trials.

A native of eastern Kentucky, Whitney moved to North Carolina to attend Elon University as an undergraduate, where she was co-captain of the Women’s Tennis Team. When she’s not working, Whitney enjoys mentoring other lawyers through the state bar, running, and has recently started playing tennis again. She lives in Raleigh with her husband, Nick, and their very handsome dog, Shep.
